#MeetMeDowntown at Texas CafƩ - a Texas Treasure!

Texas CafĆ© has been a community staple in our historic downtown for over 80 years! In 1939, Clemente Garza Sr. and his brother-in-law, Antonio Salinas opened Texas CafĆ©. The family-owned restaurant has been in operation at 517 E. 2nd Street in Rio Grande City since it opened its doors over 80 years ago. Over the years, locals and tourists have continuously sought out Texas CafĆ© for its famous cuisine. One notable guest, Pedro Infante, a Mexican actor and singer, was known to have dined at Texas CafĆ© during his visits to Rio Grande City. At one time, the cafĆ© operated 24 hours a day, now; it maintains regular and lunch hours. His son, Clemente Garza Jr., took over the restaurant in the 1970s and continued his father’s legacy of using only the freshest ingredients in his authentic family recipes. Every dish on the Texas CafĆ© menu is made from scratch. After forty years, Clemente Jr. retired and passed the apron to his daughter, Rebecca Garza. Rebecca, a full-time educator, is committed to providing the best food and service in a relaxed and friendly environment. In addition, Clemente and Ester Garza Jr. were inducted in the 2018 Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame. The Texas Treasure Business Award program pays tribute to businesses that have provided employment opportunities and support to the state’s economy for 50 years or more. The program recognizes well-established Texas businesses and their exceptional historical contributions to the state’s economic growth and prosperity. A Rio Grande City EDC Production.
